The first comics of The Lord of the Rings were published in 1979 in Italy and were drawn by Luis Bermejo. They are based on the Ralph Bakshi movie adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Just read on facebook, on the wall of John Garth, that his Tolkien and the Great War is being reprinted in paperback by HarperCollins - it's due out on 28 April. The cover has been revamped using a new scan of the 1914 photo of Tolkien, allowing a much tighter crop than the old paperback. It's not a new edition but John Garth has taken the opportunity to make a few corrections to the text. Read article

A new reissue has been released of the B-format edition of JRR Tolkiens legacy of short stories which inhabit the realm of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. Peter Jackson has hinted that production for The Hobbit will be delayed from the original estimate of March 2010 to the middle of 2010. Speaking to German site Movie Reporter, the producer stated the production will be started after scripts for the two films are complete. It seems in December there was released a very interesting paperback set, that only now showed up in Amazon. I have not seen the set myself and will probably order a copy today. This month appears the Lost Tales of Hilary Tolkien, an 88 page ilustrated hardcover book that consists of several short tales written by Hilary Tolkien, Tolkiens brother. The tales were written down in a notebook that was re-discovered by a grand-child of Hilary Tolkien and thought it a good idea to have it published. Since yesterday they started shipping out the 2009 Tolkien Calendar. It focuses on The Silmarillion and features illustrations from the revised illustration edition by Ted Nasmith. While we celebrated The Silmarillion 30th anniversary last year, it is great to see it is now in the picture again. The Calendar looks great and will find a nice place on my wall. In 1914 Tolkien stayed at his aunts farm, called Phoenix Farm, in Gedling. While the farm has now been demolished, it is said that it was there that Tolkien wrote the poem that in the end led to the Lord Of The Ring.
