Anyone who has done some research on the name Tolkien or relatives of the author J.R.R. Tolkien has sooner or later paid for the services of the website Ancestry.co.uk. Just recently I was digging into the war-time experiences of Hilary Tolkien, the brother of John Ronald Reuel Tolkien and managed to find some info in their database. With their databases containing more than 16 million names and thousands of government records available to search, researching veterans has become easier than ever before.
I was especially amazed by the court records, which are an often overlooked, yet prooved to be a very valuable tool in my research. The land records they hold can connect the person you study to certain places and related family members.
Now what I did not know was that Ancestry.co.uk also publishes books and it seems they made a book on the Tolkien Name in History. I have not read it myself, but having seen the info they have in their databases this might be an interesting book. If anyone has read it, I'd be very happy to post your review here!
