The Tolkien Collector Magazine no. 31 almost ready (10.01.11 by Pieter Collier) - Comments

Wayne Hammond & Christina Scull have just posted on their blog, Too Many Books and Never Enough, that the latest issue of The Tolkien Collector, no. 31, is almost ready for posting to subscribers. This is great news! I always look forward to The Tolkien Collector Magazine.

This an occasional magazine for serious collectors of J.R.R. Tolkien usually exists of 32 or 36 pages and includes news about new and forthcoming books by and about Tolkien, translations of Tolkien’s works, recordings, videos, and other Tolkieniana; and feature sublime articles on aspects of collecting Tolkien and Tolkien bibliography. Most impressive are articles that describe in detail and step by step on how to recognise 1st editions of for example The Lord of the Rings.

For serious Tolkien collectors this is the must have magazine! While very specialized in topic and probably not so interesting to the general Tolkien lover this magazine has the same quality as all the other works produced by Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull; I think among others about J.R.R. Tolkien: A Descriptive Bibliography (Winchester bibliographies of 20th century writers) and The J. R. R. Tolkien Companion and Guide: Boxed Set: Chronology AND Reader's Guide. It remains everytime impressive to see how dedicated and perfectionistic Wayne & Christina work. The only thing I can say is that I thank them once again and wish them a fine new year!

Letters from Father Christmas by J.R.R. Tolkien, edited by Baillie Tolkien, as published by HarperCollins, London, in 2009

Contents of The Tolkien Collector 31

In addition to the usual description of recent books by and about J.R.R. Tolkien, Tolkien Collector 31 contains a lengthy comparison by Christina of the editions to date of Tolkien’s ‘Father Christmas’ letters (1976–2009), with details of transcriptions and reproductions as they have variously appeared.

Wayne & Christina ask that those subscribers who received an expiry notice with the previous issue, no. 30, and still wish to receive The Tolkien Collector but have not yet renewed, are reminded again to do so according to the terms on their website.

And I can only advise, if you are not a subscriber yet, now is the perfect time to start!
