JRR Tolkien book news, new Tolkien book publications in 2010 & Tolkien books reviews

2010 was very much a silent year when it comes to new Tolkien book publications, but none the less still very interesting. We saw the release of a one of a kind limited edition poster of tolkien's poem Oliphaunt, the History of Middle-earth got a reprint and is now available again through print on demand, the 2011 Tolkien calendar took a completely new direction and displays the art by Cor Blok, the maps of Middle-earth saw a new reprinting and makeover and many books by and about Tolkien where released as paperbacks. All together a lot of new paths in Tolkien book publication where tried and I'm certain that next year we will see the release of some other print on demand books and get some more by Cor Blok. Since 2012 will be the year of The Hobbit, I'm convinced a lot of publishers will wish to release some non-movie related items before the storm of Hobbit related movie items, publications and bookcovers take over the market again.

Wish by Michael G. R. Tolkien

Today a newly released book called Wish caught my attention. It is written by the great grandson of J.R.R. Tolkien and is a children story written in verse, based on the timeless childrens story called The Rose-coloured Wish by Florence Bone. The Ruins of Osgiliath - Ivory Edition

This collection of stories drawn and blended from the fabric of Middle-earth by JRR Tolkien, written by Alex Lewis, was first issued in a series of 3 comprehensive booklets for members of the Tolkien Society in 1990. In 2005 they were expanded and beautifully illuminated by the hand of Ruth Lacon. The 2005 edition was limited to 100 copies and sold out very quickly. The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrun Paperback Editions

Summer is coming, and it is time to go out and about, travel and read books outside! Most will know about the previously unknown work by J.R.R. Tolkien, which tells the epic story of the Norse hero, Sigurd, the dragon-slayer, the revenge of his wife, Gudrun, and the Fall of the Nibelungs, that was released in 2009. The Middle-earth Quiz Book is back

Release of the History of Middle-earth Series to coincide with relaunch of tolkien.co.uk

Unfinished Tales of Numenor and Middle-earth reissue gets Ted Nasmith cover

A new reissue has been released of the B-format edition of JRR Tolkiens legacy of short stories which inhabit the realm of The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. Tolkien Calendar 2011 will feature art by Cor Blok

The official Tolkien calendar, this year will contain 13 paintings inspired by The Lord of the Rings, and will feature many previously unseen works of art by the Dutch artist, Cor Blok. Cor Blok, now a retired Dutch professor in history of art, made more than 100 illustrations for The Lord of the Rings as a graduation project at his art college. Oliphaunt Limited Edition Poster will be released in March

Oliphaunt is a poem by J.R.R. Tolkien which was first published in The Lord of the Rings, Book IV, Chapter 3, and reprinted with the title Oliphaunt in The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from the Red Book (1962).
