J.R.R. Tolkien – Complete Dutch Holographic Hardcover Collection, Six Matching Volumes

An exceptionally attractive collector-assembled collection of all six matching Dutch Tolkien hardcovers with metallic lettering, decorative bindings and holographic cover details.

Published in Amsterdam by Uitgeverij M and Mynx during the 2000s.
This collection brings together the complete three-volume Dutch edition of The Lord of the Rings with the matching holographic editions of De Hobbit, De Silmarillion and De Kinderen van Húrin.

The three volumes of In de Ban van de Ring originated as a special edition commemorating fifty years since the British publication of The Fellowship of the Ring in 1954. Further Tolkien titles were subsequently issued in closely matching decorated bindings, creating a highly distinctive Dutch series.

This is not an originally issued publisher’s boxed set, but a carefully assembled collection of the six corresponding holographic hardcovers.

The collection comprises:
– De Silmarillion, dark grey binding with a reflective central emblem
– De Hobbit, golden-yellow binding with a green holographic emblem
– De Kinderen van Húrin, purple binding with a golden Dragon-helm emblem

The designs share the same visual language: richly coloured pictorial boards, simulated ornamental spines, metallic gold lettering, manuscript-like background details and small reflective or holographic elements. Displayed together, their different colours form an impressive and remarkably harmonious Tolkien collection.

Condition report:
A highly attractive and well-matched set in very good overall collectible condition, with only light signs of handling and shelf storage.

The decorated boards remain bright and colourful, and the metallic and holographic details retain their reflective appearance. The bindings stand well together and all titles remain clearly legible on the spines.

There is light rubbing and minor surface wear to some of the boards, with small touches of wear at a few corners and spine ends. De Kinderen van Húrin shows a small bump and light wear at the upper right corner. Minor handling marks are visible elsewhere when viewed closely, but none significantly detract from the overall presentation.

No slipcase was issued with this assembled collection. The photographs primarily document the exterior bindings; the set is therefore offered according to the condition visible in the accompanying images.

Summary:
A scarce opportunity to acquire six matching Dutch Tolkien holographic hardcovers at once. The collection includes the complete In de Ban van de Ring trilogy together with three of Tolkien’s most important related works, all presented in the same striking Dutch design style.

A wonderfully decorative and difficult-to-reassemble Tolkien collection, ideal for display and considerably more desirable as a complete matching group.
