In de Ban van de Ring, J.R.R. Tolkien – Dutch 50th Anniversary Holographic Hardcover Set (2004), Factory Sealed
Complete three-volume Dutch anniversary edition of Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings, with striking holographic covers and all three books still sealed in their original publisher’s shrink-wrap.
Published by Uitgeverij M, Amsterdam, in 2004.
Translated into Dutch by Max Schuchart. This special edition was issued to commemorate fifty years since the original British publication of The Fellowship of the Ring in 1954.
The set consists of three individually bound hardcovers:
– Volume 1: De Reisgenoten, with a rich red cover and green Eye emblem
– Volume 2: De Twee Torens, with a green cover and blue spherical emblem
– Volume 3: De Terugkeer van de Koning, with a blue cover and golden Ring emblem
The elaborate cover designs combine metallic gold lettering, manuscript-like backgrounds, decorative borders and reflective holographic details. The changing colours and central emblems give this anniversary edition a particularly distinctive appearance.
The rear covers state: “Deze speciale editie verschijnt in het kader van 50 jaar In de ban van de Ring.” Each volume was originally priced at €19.95.

Condition report:
All three volumes remain unopened in their original publisher’s shrink-wrap. The books have therefore never been read and their covers retain their bright colours, metallic lettering and holographic effects.
The shrink-wrap shows normal storage wear, including wrinkles, looseness and small splits or openings around some corners and at the heads and feet of the books. This is most noticeable on De Terugkeer van de Koning. The original €19.95 retail label remains attached to the shrink-wrap on the rear of that volume.
Through the transparent wrapping, the hardcover boards appear clean and attractive. The books stand well, and the visible page edges are clean and remarkably fresh. There is no obvious fading or serious external damage visible in the photographs.
Because all three books remain sealed, the bindings and interior pages have not been individually inspected. Preserving the original seals is, however, an important part of the collectible nature of this set.
Summary:
A complete and remarkably well-preserved set of the colourful 2004 Dutch 50th-anniversary edition of In de Ban van de Ring. The matching red, green and blue holographic bindings make this one of the most immediately recognisable modern Dutch Tolkien editions, while the surviving publisher’s shrink-wrap makes the set considerably more desirable to collectors.
A scarce opportunity to acquire all three volumes together in sealed, unread condition.
