This is his second major published work, preceded only by the Hobbit.
Originally published in 1949, this is the 11th impression of the 1st Edition, published by Allen & Unwin, in 1974.
A Near Fine book with original dustjacket (unclipped) in near mint condition.

The dustjacket is not price clipped. The book has no writing or previous owners names.
The textblock is clean, bright and tight, without any foxing, top edge slightly dusty.
Some tiny dust spots to the front of the text block. Only a stamp from the Cumbria County Library on the title page, otherwhise near fine and mint condition!
Two color plates by Pauline Baynes, as well as being illustrated on almost every page with her line drawings.

Highly collectable, this is a very nice copy for any Tolkien fans collection.
