London: Unwin Hyman, 1987. Super Deluxe fiftieth-anniversary edition of The Hobbit, limited to 500 numbered copies.
This is copy 13. The first 100 copies were signed by Christopher Tolkien on the limitation bookplate, making this an especially desirable low-numbered example.

Bound in full dark-green morocco with raised spine bands, gilt lettering and Tolkien monogram, blind-stamped Smaug design to the rear cover, top edge gilt and cream endpapers; housed in the publisher's green cloth slipcase.

The edition includes Christopher Tolkien's foreword, Tolkien artwork, maps, facsimiles and colour plates.

The book is clean, bright and scarcely read. The photographs show light handling and shelf wear to the slipcase, including a small pale mark; the original mailing case is not present.

A low-numbered signed example of one of the most sought-after modern deluxe editions of The Hobbit.
