This copy is the 1st impression, published in 1976, of the 1st DeLuxe Edition of 1976, with the Tolkien line drawings colorized by H. E. Riddett, also housed in the original publishers box.

Bound in black buckram cloth, with gilt artwork on the front boards, depicting tolkien's 'Green Dragon', gilt stamped in red, silver & gold.  
Gilt compartments with Title, Author, and publisher on the spines.
An exceptional copy for the collector.
No names, writing or faults noted in the book.
Maps are bound in, rather than used as the endpapers.
The publishers box shows a little wear to the edges and corners, with a couple of splits to the joints of the box reglued.
The label is clean and bright.
The box shows a little wear but it has protected the book very well over the years.

Overall a Near Fine copy of this wonderful book, housed in it's Very Good Plus publisher's box.
