1946 Fourth Impression of The Hobbit with Original Dustjacket - Excellent Condition
Fourth impression published 1946 by George Allen and Unwin Ltd., the final publication of the 1st Edition.
No foxing to the maps or pages.
The decorative map endpapers are clean & bright in Fine condition, no previous owner's name or any writing.
A small bookshop label on the rear pastedown.
Color frontispiece, 8 mono plates, and text block all in Fine condition.
Straight and square, no spine lean, a well protected copy, very unusual for these early 1st Editions to survive in this condition.
Produced in conformity with the war time standard's, with the distinctive 'War Time Economy Standards' title verso.
This copy has its original price clipped dustjacket in Very Good condition.
Has 1/4" loss at the bottom of the spine not intruding on the Allen & Unwin logo, and one split tear at the top of the spine, with a loss of 3/8" X 3/4" to the top edge, a few small wrinkles and closed tears, mostly at the fold areas.
Dustjacket is in archival protector, to help preserve this unrestored and unrepaired original dustjacket.
Pages are clean and bright, no tears or stains. Still shows the green topstain only slightly dusty.
Only the slightest shelf wear to the edges of the boards, no bumped corners.
The original decorative green cloth, is unsoiled with the hint of fading at the top fold area, matching the dustjacket loss.
A beautiful collectable copy. Uncommon in this Excellent condition.
