Newly rebound in dark green morocco leather. Second impression published 1937, same year as 1st impression.
Decorative map endpapers lifted and reused, with 4 color and 9 mono plates all in excellent condition. The second impression is important for the addition of the 4 color illustrations by the author.
This is the 1st and only early UK edition published with tolkien's color illustrations. One of only 1877 copies of the original 2300 that survived the bombing of London in November 1940.
This copy has been elegantly rebound in full Dark Green Morocco leather. Features Tolkiens orignal 'Mountains and Dragon' design gilt stamped on the boards and spine.
Has no writing or inscriptions. Pages are clean and bright, a few finger smudges scattered through the book, none obtrusive. All edges have been trimmed and gilded, with a black ribbon marker sewn in. Original cloth spine bound into the rear.
A beautiful copy, in a fabulous finely crafted binding. A full leather clamshell case with matching gilt stamping is included to protect and display this wonderful book.
