The Middle-earth Quiz Book is back (21.06.10 by Pieter Collier) -
With all the social media booming like crazy and the numerous Middle-earth Trivia possibilities online, one would almost forget that for years and years we used to pull our copy of the Middle-earth Quiz book from the shelves to train our brains into all things Tolkien. I'm certain it will not take long before we see a Tolkien Quiz Ipad app... if it does not exist already!
I'm very much into all things Apple, love apps, love e-book readers, social media,... but at the same time I am moving back to the traditional printed media; whenever I want to really enjoy reading there is nothing like a good book in your hand!
Yesterday I dicovered the Middle-earth Quiz Book is back in print. I believe I hold about 7 different printings of this book already and I'm glad to see it is back available!
The Middle-earth Quiz Book is made up of 101 quizzes containing more than 1024 questions, dived in eight section and covers the books The Hobbit
, The Lord of the Rings
and The Silmarillion
Please be aware that these questions were taken from the J.R.R Tolkien books and not from the Peter Jackson trilogy of movies. The movies are wonderful but they differ from the books. Maybe it is time for someone to work on the section of movie related questions, and then I'm also thinking about the animated version of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and add some extra chapters to this book. Just an idea... but I guess it would complete this book and make it even more fun!
The Middle-earth Quiz Book is designed to challenge both the solitary reader and groups of Tolkien fans competing against each other. Name the thirteen dwarves Bilbo Baggins accompanied to Erebor. Which inn has the best beer in Eastfarthing? Can you list the seven beacon towers of Gondor in order? What shapes do Hobbits prefer for their windows and doors? The answer to these questions and more can be found within its pages.
The majority of the questions can be answered in a few words or less. The Trivia quizzes contain the most difficult questions and test attention to detail.
In addition, there are quizzes that cover categories from all five books, like the horse and its rider, the chronology of the Kings of Rohan, and questions about Elves, Dwarves, and Ents.
This book is fun, especially with the summer coming along and Tolkien fans moving around to Tolkien festivals, art exhibitions, conventions, moots and meetings. Make sure to have this book around and you will see why I like it so much!
The Quiz book was originally offered in limited release in 1979 in the US and in 1980 in the United Kingdom, and was reprinted several times (using different covers). Now The Middle-earth Quiz Book is being offered again to devoted and new fans of tolkien's legendary works, with permission of the Tolkien Estate. Congratulations Suzanne Coon to get this book back, we are most gratefull for this!
