This special collector’s edition gathers all twelve volumes of The History of Middle-earth into three substantial hardback volumes, housed in a matching black slipcase.

Originally published individually between 1983 and 1996, the twelve-volume series documents the creation and development of Tolkien’s legendarium, including early drafts of The Silmarillion, The Lord of the Rings, and related writings. Edited and meticulously annotated by Christopher Tolkien, the series remains one of the most important works of literary scholarship devoted to a single author.

This 2017 collector’s edition presents the complete text — over 5,000 pages — in three large-format volumes. Each book is quarter-bound in black with grey boards stamped in gold foil, includes a silk ribbon marker, and is housed in a matching black slipcase featuring Tolkien’s monogram in gilt.

Condition:
The set remains sealed in the publisher’s original shrinkwrap. The volumes are therefore unread and untouched.

The shrinkwrap shows minor handling wear and light creasing to corners, but remains intact. The slipcase beneath appears clean and structurally sound. A very attractive sealed example of this substantial collector’s edition.
