This handsome three-volume set presents Christopher Tolkien’s monumental editorial work tracing the development of his father’s legendarium, from the earliest Lost Tales through successive drafts of
The Silmarillion and
The Lord of the Rings.
Each volume is bound in black cloth with silver lettering to the spine and housed together in the publisher’s black slipcase, decorated to the side with Tolkien’s monogram in gilt. The spines are lettered “Tolkien I”, “Tolkien II”, and “Tolkien III”, with coloured volume numerals.
This is the regular HarperCollins slipcased hardback set (not the unissued India paper deluxe version).
Condition:
A sealed, unopened example in the original publisher’s shrinkwrap. The slipcase remains sharp and structurally sound. The shrinkwrap shows minor handling creases and small splits at the edges, as visible in the photographs, but the set itself remains protected and unread.
An attractive and substantial collector’s set of Christopher Tolkien’s indispensable study of the making of Middle-earth.
Photographs shown are of the exact set offered.
Other Tolkien books available, including UK and US editions, deluxe bindings, slipcased sets, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
