Mr. Bliss — First Edition (1982) — George Allen & Unwin — In Dust Jacket (Gold Circular Price Label Variant)
Mr. Bliss by J.R.R. Tolkien.
George Allen & Unwin (Publishers) Ltd, London, 1982.
First Edition (1982). Hardback in the original dust jacket.
A wonderfully quirky Tolkien oddity:
Mr. Bliss reproduces Tolkien’s own illustrated manuscript in facsimile, with the printed text on the facing pages—allowing you to follow the story exactly as Tolkien drew and wrote it. The result is part children’s tale, part graphic sketchbook, and entirely Tolkien in tone and humour.
Illustrated throughout by J.R.R. Tolkien.
The copyright page (as photographed) includes “First published in 1982” and lists Marquette University as the repository of the original manuscript.
ISBN: 0-04-823215-7.
This copy is in the dust-jacket variant with the circular gold “Price Net £4.95 in UK only” label to the lower cover (as shown in the photographs).
Condition:
Near Fine. A very clean, bright example. The book itself is sharp and fresh, with a tight binding and clean pages throughout. The dust jacket is well-preserved and presentable, with only light handling / shelf wear (and now protected in a clear removable sleeve, as photographed).
Photographs shown are of the exact copy offered.
Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
