This 1994 HarperCollins edition presents Tolkien’s delightful and richly illustrated tale Mr. Bliss, first published in Great Britain by George Allen & Unwin in 1982. The story was originally written and illustrated by Tolkien in the 1930s for his children, though it remained unpublished during his lifetime.

Each page of Tolkien’s original manuscript is reproduced in full-colour facsimile, with the printed text presented clearly on the facing page. Tolkien’s lively and humorous illustrations form an integral part of the narrative and preserve the charm of the original manuscript.

The manuscript of Mr. Bliss is owned by Marquette University, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is held in the Department of Special Collections and University Archives.

The volume is bound in the publisher’s original illustrated boards and retains its original dustwrapper featuring Tolkien’s motorcar illustration. The oblong format follows that of the 1982 first edition.

Condition:
A clean and attractive copy. The dustwrapper remains bright with light handling wear only. The boards are fresh and the binding is firm and square. The pages are clean throughout, with no ownership inscriptions visible in the photographed pages. A very presentable example.

A charming illustrated fantasy, highly desirable for collectors of Tolkien’s illustrated works and admirers of his original artwork.
