The expanded illustrated collection, edited by Baillie Tolkien, in the original blue and gilt dust jacket.

Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston and New York, 1999. First US printing of the revised edition. Hardcover, English language. ISBN 0-618-00937-X / 978-0-618-00937-4.

The title page is dated 1999 and the copyright page carries the complete number line 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2. Printed and bound in Great Britain by Scotprint Ltd, Musselburgh, Scotland. The original blue and gilt pictorial dust jacket retains its $20.00 publisher's price on the front flap.

Written and illustrated by J.R.R. Tolkien and edited by Baillie Tolkien, this expanded revised edition brings together the letters, pictures, decorated envelopes and North Pole stamps Tolkien created for his children. The stories follow Father Christmas, the accident-prone North Polar Bear, elves and goblins, with colourful reproductions of Tolkien's handwriting and artwork. The jacket advertises previously unpublished letters and drawings.

Condition: An attractive copy in its original dust jacket. The jacket shows light surface rubbing and small creases or rippling near the upper edge of the front panel, with minor edge and corner wear. The red endpapers and photographed interior pages appear clean, and the illustrations retain their colour. Please consult the nine photographs for the visible condition of this copy.
