The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings – 4 Volume Boxed Set (Houghton Mifflin, 1999) – Still Sealed.
The classic 1999 Houghton Mifflin boxed set, representing the iconic “Alan Lee era” of Tolkien paperback design.
This is the well-known Houghton Mifflin four-volume boxed set, published on 15 September 1999, containing the complete Middle-earth narrative:
– The Hobbit
– The Fellowship of the Ring
– The Two Towers
– The Return of the King
This edition forms part of the late-1990s “uniform Alan Lee design” period, whose distinctive visual style became one of the most recognisable presentations of Tolkien’s works prior to the Peter Jackson film adaptations.
The volumes are housed in the original publisher’s slipcase, which remains still sealed in the original shrink-wrap.
Condition
The set is unopened and preserved in the original shrink-wrap. The shrink-wrap shows tearing and splitting (as visible in the photographs), but the books themselves appear clean, fresh, and unused beneath. A very presentable example.
