The Hobbit — Facsimile First Edition Boxed (HarperCollins)
The Hobbit, or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Facsimile First Edition, published by HarperCollins Publishers, London.
A faithful reproduction of the extremely rare 1937 first edition, presented here in the original publisher’s green slipcase featuring Tolkien’s dragon (Smaug) line design in dark blue.
The volume itself reproduces the original George Allen & Unwin first edition format, including the early typography, original text setting, and the distinctive period dust jacket artwork design as issued in 1937.
The spine panel visible through the slipcase replicates the original Allen & Unwin design with mountain and river motif and publisher imprint.
The rear panel states “The Hobbit – Facsimile First Edition” and carries ISBN 9780007440832. Original UK price £25.00 printed to the rear panel.
This example remains sealed in the original publisher’s shrink-wrap. The wrap shows minor handling creases and light compression marks to the lower edge of the slipcase as visible in the photographs. The slipcase beneath appears clean and bright. The book is unread.
A highly desirable edition for collectors wishing to own a true representation of the legendary 1937 first edition at a fraction of the cost of an original.
Photographs shown are of the exact copy offered.
