The Hobbit — Limited Edition Collector’s Box (HarperCollins, c. 2000) — Sealed

A highly attractive and increasingly scarce sealed collector’s edition, complete with all original contents and still in the publisher’s shrink-wrap.

This is the Limited Edition Collector’s Box of The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, issued by HarperCollins around 2000. The set is housed in the distinctive black slipcase with silver titling and subtle dragon motif, and remains completely unopened in the original shrink-wrap.

The edition was issued as a special collector’s package and includes a number of additional items celebrating Tolkien’s work and artwork.

Contents (as issued):
– A special hardcover edition of The Hobbit
– A full-colour fold-out map of Wilderland by John Howe
– An illustrated booklet by Brian Sibley on the writing of The Hobbit
– A set of eight colour postcards featuring Tolkien’s own artwork
– An audio CD featuring J.R.R. Tolkien reading the Riddles scene (1952 recording)

Condition:
Still sealed in the original publisher’s shrink-wrap. The wrap shows only light handling wear. The contents remain unopened and untouched.

Notes:
As the set remains sealed, the exact printing of the enclosed book cannot be confirmed. Early issues of this release are known to include additional promotional material related to the forthcoming Lord of the Rings films, but this cannot be verified without breaking the seal.

Examples of this edition are commonly encountered opened or incomplete; sealed copies such as this are increasingly difficult to find and are particularly desirable for collectors.
