This is the BCA issue of Tolkien’s posthumously published mythology of the First Age — the foundational legends of Middle-earth — prepared for publication by Christopher Tolkien and issued shortly after the original 1977 trade publication.
The edition is explicitly stated on the copyright page: “This edition published 1978 by Book Club Associates by arrangement with George Allen & Unwin (Publishers) Ltd.”, with copyright © George Allen & Unwin (Publishers) Ltd., 1977.
Condition
The book is in Very Good to Near Fine condition, with clean pages and light, even toning commensurate with age. No ownership inscriptions; a small pencil price/notation is present to the front free endpaper (as photographed). The original dust jacket is in Very Good condition, showing light edge wear and a small closed tear at the top edge.
