A superb example of the 2004 illustrated hardcover edition of The Silmarillion, published by Houghton Mifflin Company and edited by Christopher Tolkien, with magnificent full-colour illustrations by Ted Nasmith.

This edition represents one of the most visually accomplished presentations of Tolkien’s mythology, combining the authoritative revised text with Nasmith’s now-classic interpretations of Middle-earth. The illustrations are integrated throughout the volume and complemented by illustrated endpapers.

The book is a true first printing of the 2004 Houghton Mifflin illustrated edition, confirmed by the complete number line HC 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1. It was printed and bound in Belgium by Proost NV, Turnhout.

Condition

The book is in As New condition. The blue cloth binding is clean and sharp, the pages are fresh and unread, and the interior is entirely unmarked. The original illustrated dust jacket is likewise in As New condition, with no fading, rubbing, or wear.

Copies of this illustrated edition are frequently encountered with jacket wear or handling flaws; examples preserved in this condition are increasingly uncommon.
