J.R.R. Tolkien – The Silmarillion – HarperCollins Tolkien Centenary Edition (1992)
First Printing of the 1992 HarperCollins Edition — Issued for the Tolkien Centenary, with Gold Tengwar Bands
This is the HarperCollins hardback edition of The Silmarillion, published in London in 1992 to coincide with the Tolkien Centenary. The book is edited by Christopher Tolkien and represents the standard revised text of the work.
This copy is the first printing of the 1992 HarperCollins edition, as indicated by the complete number line: 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2. ISBN: 0-261-10242-7. Printed in Great Britain by Hartnoll Ltd.
The volume is bound in the publisher’s original boards and is housed in the distinctive pictorial dust jacket produced for the Tolkien Centenary, featuring gold bands lettered in Tengwar at the head and foot of the jacket, and the official Tolkien Centenary roundel to the rear panel.
Condition
The book is in near fine condition, showing no signs of reading. The contents are clean and fresh throughout, with no inscriptions, foxing, or defects. The dust jacket is complete and bright, with no tears or losses; a very slight waviness to the jacket is present, consistent with storage in the original protective wrapping.
A very attractive first printing of the Tolkien Centenary Silmarillion, well preserved and increasingly difficult to find in this condition.
