Published by HarperCollins, London, 2004. The celebrated burgundy cloth deluxe edition of The Silmarillion, produced in the same series as the deluxe editions of The Lord of the Rings and Unfinished Tales. This edition features the full suite of colour plates by Ted Nasmith, gilt titling and JRRT monogram to the spine, and comes housed in a matching burgundy slipcase with gilt device. Copies in sealed, untouched condition have become extremely scarce.

Your example remains completely unopened, with the publisher’s original shrink-wrap intact. The slipcase corners are sharp, the cloth clean and unfaded beneath the film, and the gilt blocking bright. Factory-sealed deluxe Tolkien editions are increasingly difficult to source, and this title is one of the most desirable of the modern illustrated series.

As-new. Still in original publisher’s shrink-wrap. Only the natural tight-wrap stress points typical for these 2004 shrinked boxes are visible (at top and bottom edges of the slipcase); these are not defects but a normal consequence of two decades of sealed storage. No bumps, no rubbing, no handling marks — an extraordinarily well-preserved example.
