The Lord of the Rings – 1981 U.S. Silver Anniversary Slipcased Hardcover Set. Houghton Mifflin Company.

An original 25th Anniversary U.S. hardcover set, still sealed and exceptionally well preserved.

This is the 1981 American Silver Anniversary edition of The Lord of the Rings, issued by Houghton Mifflin Company to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the publication of the trilogy in the United States.

The three volumes are bound in distinctive silver/pewter leatherette with black spine titling and red decorative mountain design at the lower spine area. The set is housed in the original black publisher slipcase.

Condition
The set remains in the original publisher shrink-wrap and presents like new beneath the wrap.

The shrink-wrap shows natural storage marks and surface speckling, which are reflections and wear to the plastic only — not to the books or slipcase underneath. There is no structural splitting to the set itself.

A small white sticker is present on the lower portion of the shrink-wrap (as photographed). The contents have not been removed from the wrap and appear unopened and unread.

The slipcase appears square and clean beneath the plastic. Any visible irregularities in photographs are due to light reflection on the shrink-wrap surface.

A highly collectible U.S. anniversary edition — seldom encountered still sealed and in such preserved state.
