The Lord of the Rings – Tolkien Centenary Slipcased Paperback Set (Grafton/HarperCollins, 1991).

A very attractive sealed three-volume Tolkien Centenary set, housed in the original red slipcase with gilt decoration and the official “Tolkien Centenary 1892–1992” emblem.

This is the classic early-1990s HarperCollins/Grafton boxed paperback set of The Lord of the Rings, issued in the distinctive red slipcase with gilt borders featuring rune-style bands. The slipcase is stamped in gilt with J.R.R. Tolkien – The Lord of the Rings, and the rear panel carries the circular Tolkien Centenary 1892–1992 device.

The set remains still sealed in the publisher’s original shrink-wrap. The shrink-wrap shows splits and lifting in places, but the set underneath appears very well-preserved and largely untouched.

A small stock/warehouse sticker reading “G 2M” is also present on the base, as photographed, alongside the barcode label (with code “01699” visible on the right side of the barcode label).

Slipcase
Red textured slipcase with gilt stamping and gilt decorative bands with rune-style patterning at top and bottom.
Front panel: gilt oval title stamp.
Rear panel: gilt Tolkien Centenary emblem (1892–1992).

Condition
Sealed and unused set. The shrink-wrap has splits/tears from age and handling; the slipcase shows light handling to edges visible through the wrap. The books are not photographed outside the wrap and are assumed unopened/unread.

A lovely collectible Tolkien Centenary boxed set — increasingly hard to find still sealed.
