The History of Middle-earth: Part III
HarperCollins Publishers, 2001. First printing of the Deluxe Limited Edition, limited to only 1000 copies worldwide.
This substantial collector’s volume brings together Volumes X–XII of
The History of Middle-earth:
Morgoth’s Ring,
The War of the Jewels and
The Peoples of Middle-earth, edited by Christopher Tolkien — completing the monumental documentary history of the evolution of Tolkien’s legendarium.
Printed on fine India paper and quarter bound in black leather with gilt titling, publisher device and Tolkien monogram to the spine.
The front board carries the large gilt Tolkien monogram.
All edges gilt.
Housed in the original matching cloth slipcase, also stamped with the gilt Tolkien monogram, uniform with the HarperCollins Deluxe editions of
The Hobbit,
The Lord of the Rings and
The Silmarillion.
Condition: The book itself is mint and unread, still protected in the publisher’s original shrink-wrap. The shrink-wrap remains intact with only very minor age-related tightness at corners from storage; the volume and slipcase beneath appear in pristine condition. The internal publisher information sheet beneath the shrink-wrap is positioned upside down, as occasionally encountered with factory-sealed copies.
An increasingly difficult deluxe volume to find in such preserved state, particularly in sealed condition.
