The J.R.R. Tolkien Deluxe Edition Collection in Original HarperCollins Publisher’s Slipcase, Limited to 500 Sets.

A publisher-issued four-volume deluxe collection: The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings (50th Anniversary), The Silmarillion (30th Anniversary) & The Children of Húrin — complete in the original gilt-stamped outer slipcase.

This is the desirable HarperCollins “Deluxe Edition Collection”, issued as a matching set in the publisher’s special outer slipcase and stated as being limited to 500 sets. The set brings together four of HarperCollins’ acclaimed 21st-century deluxe, slipcased editions (2004–2007), housed in a separate black outer publisher’s slipcase gilt-lettered to both sides.

The set comprises:

The Hobbit — HarperCollins Deluxe Slipcased Edition (2004). Featuring all thirteen of Tolkien’s own illustrations reproduced in full colour, together with his maps as originally intended.

The Lord of the Rings — HarperCollins 50th Anniversary Deluxe Slipcased Edition (2004). Including facsimile pages from the Book of Mazarbul as drawn by Tolkien for intended inclusion.

The Silmarillion — HarperCollins 30th Anniversary Deluxe Slipcased Edition (2007). With Tolkien’s The Halls of Manwë as the full-colour frontispiece, Christopher Tolkien’s colour maps (including a fold-out map of Beleriand), and (as Preface) Tolkien’s original 1951 letter outlining his mythology of Middle-earth.

The Children of Húrin — HarperCollins Deluxe Slipcased Edition (2007). Including an additional Alan Lee colour plate not present in the standard hardback, and the Helm of Húrin gilt-stamped to the slipcase.

Condition

All four books remain in their original publisher’s shrinkwrap and appear unread. The shrinkwrap shows typical storage wear (light creasing and small tears in places), but the volumes beneath present extremely well with bright gilt to the spines and no visible faults through the wrap.

Publisher’s Outer Slipcase

The black outer slipcase (the special “collection” slipcase produced to house the four deluxe volumes) is intact and structurally sound, with light rubbing, minor edge wear and small corner wear from handling/storage, as visible in the photos. No splits or repairs noted.

A scarce and highly attractive publisher-issued Tolkien deluxe collection, complete in the original HarperCollins outer slipcase and in collectible condition.
