The Lord of the Rings – Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition (HarperCollins, 2004) – Factory Sealed
Complete in publisher’s slipcase and still sealed in the original shrinkwrap
Overview. A superb unopened example of HarperCollins’ Deluxe 50th Anniversary Edition of The Lord of the Rings, produced in 2004 and now increasingly difficult to find in genuine factory-sealed condition.
Text and features. This edition is the definitive reset of the text for the anniversary, incorporating hundreds of corrections prepared from Tolkien’s manuscripts and annotated copies. It includes Christopher Tolkien’s red and black maps (with fold-outs), a full-colour plate section reproducing pages from the Book of Mazarbul, additional Hobbit family trees, plus the appendices and a revised index.
Binding. Quarter-bound in red, stamped in red and gold foil on grey boards, with a red silk ribbon marker, housed in a matching publisher’s slipcase. Printed on superior quality paper.
Condition. Still sealed in the original factory shrinkwrap (unopened). As always with sealed copies, internal printing details are not checked, but the exterior remains exactly as issued.
Design match. Produced to match the HarperCollins deluxe style/design used for titles such as The Hobbit, The Silmarillion, Unfinished Tales, The Children of Húrin, Tales from the Perilous Realm, Beowulf, Beren and Lúthien, and The Fall of Gondolin.
