The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Deluxe Edition, 2001 2nd Impression
Published by HarperCollins

This rare Deluxe Edition of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a 2001 2nd impression published by HarperCollins, following the original 1999 Deluxe Edition. This collectible edition is assumed by many to be a limited edition of 2500 copies - this is not actually stated in the book. The actual print run size is unknown.

Quarter-bound in luxurious black leather, the book features gilt-stamped designs on the spine, including the author’s monogram and title. A magnificent large gilt design of Smaug adorns the front cover, creating an impressive and highly detailed look. The book is housed in the original publisher’s black faux leather slipcase, which also features the matching Smaug design in gilt, reflecting the same artwork as the book itself.

This edition contains all of Tolkien’s original line drawings and color plates from both the UK 2nd impression and US 1st printings. The book’s edges are gilt, and it includes one of the few printed editions with the author’s facsimile signature, adding to its uniqueness.

The condition of this edition is remarkable, with the slipcase showing only minor rubs at the bottom. The book itself is in excellent condition, with crisp and clean pages, and no signs of wear. It’s a true gem that stands out among other Tolkien editions.

Published by HarperCollins in 2001 as a 2nd impression.
One of a series of matching Deluxe Editions, including The Lord of the Rings, The Silmarillion, and The History of Middle Earth series.
All edges of the text block are gilded, making this a truly stunning collector’s piece.
This edition is quarter-bound in black leather, with the remaining cover in black cloth.

Whether you’re a dedicated Tolkien collector or a lover of fine books, this Deluxe Edition of The Hobbit is a beautiful and timeless collectible that showcases the enduring appeal of Tolkien’s work.
