In de Ban van de Ring — first Dutch edition (1956–1957), three volumes with original and facsimile jackets

The first Dutch edition of The Lord of the Rings, translated by Max Schuchart and published by Het Spectrum in three volumes: De reisgenoten (1956), De twee torens (1957) and De terugkeer van de koning (1957). The set is bound in dark cloth with red spine labels and red top edges. The original Cees Kelfkens dust jackets are worn and incomplete as described below. They are retained with the set, alongside cleaner facsimile jackets for display. Both the surviving original jackets and the facsimiles are included.

Condition

The cloth bindings present well, with visible handling and shelf wear; the red top edges remain well coloured. The original jackets are worn, with rubbing, tears, creasing and losses. The original De reisgenoten jacket is incomplete, lacking its rear panel. The supplied original jackets are retained as part of the set. The facsimiles are replacement display jackets, not original first-edition jackets. The photographs also show the boards, endpapers and map; they should be consulted for the specific wear and markings visible in those areas.
