This is the 1969 Deluxe India Paper Edition of The Lord of the Rings, a luxurious single-volume edition published by George Allen & Unwin. This edition is housed in the original black slipcase, featuring Tolkien’s own design stamped in gold and silver on the front cover. The black buckram binding, embellished with gilt and silver decoration, is accompanied by marbled endpapers, contributing to the high-quality presentation of this collectible edition.

The book was printed on India paper, allowing for the entire text to be bound into a single, relatively lightweight volume. The maps, a hallmark of Tolkien’s works, are included with the book:

- Map of A Part of The Shire appears on page 30.
- The Map of The West of Middle-earth at the End of the Third Age is found on a fold-out sheet at the rear.
- The Map of Gondor, Rohan, and Mordor is included opposite page 770.

This first impression was issued in a slipcase, not the later box editions, which were introduced in 1974. The text is in excellent condition, with the pages showing minimal wear and slight aging. The slipcase has some minor wear but remains structurally sound, a testament to the durability of this deluxe edition. All fold-out maps are present and intact.
