This is the first edition of The Silmarillion, J.R.R. Tolkien’s posthumously published work, edited by his son Christopher Tolkien and released in 1977 by George Allen & Unwin. The dust jacket features a design inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s artwork, making this edition particularly special for collectors.

This first impression of the Domestic Edition is notable for its inclusion of two maps: The Realms of the Noldor and the Sindar, located opposite page 120, and the fold-out Map of Beleriand and the Lands to the North, inserted at the rear of the book. This copy retains the original price (£4.95) on the inside of the dustwrapper flap, which is a sign of the first impression.

The book is bound in dark blue cloth without a headband, with a dyed blue top edge, and the distinctive purple/blue-colored dustwrapper. The binding remains tight, and the pages are clean and well-preserved. The jacket shows only minimal wear, making this an excellent collectible copy for any Tolkien fan.
