The Lord of the Rings – Folio Society Edition (1991), Second Style – Second Printing
A beautifully preserved example of the coveted Folio Society “Second Style” edition, featuring the vellum-style bindings and elegant red slipcase.
This is the complete three-volume Folio Society edition of
The Lord of the Rings, printed in 1991 and representing the second printing of the second design style. The set comprises:
- The Fellowship of the Ring – Folio Society, 1991 (2nd printing)
- The Two Towers – Folio Society, 1991 (2nd printing)
- The Return of the King – Folio Society, 1991 (2nd printing)
Bound in cream vellum-style boards with red and gold decorative motifs, and printed on high-quality paper with
the well-known black-and-white illustrations unique to this Folio style. The volumes are crisp, clean, and tight, with no inscriptions or internal marks. The characteristic mottling to the bindings is present, as with virtually all copies of this edition.
The original red slipcase is bright and fully intact, showing only light rubbing—far better preserved than is typical for this fragile case.
A very attractive near fine set of one of the most visually distinctive Folio Society Tolkien editions, increasingly sought after as these early printings continue to rise in demand.
