This attractive Tolkien Library Box Set was produced by George Allen & Unwin in the late 1970s and brings together uniform hardback editions of The Hobbit, the three volumes of The Lord of the Rings, and The Silmarillion. All five books retain their original dustjackets and all maps are present, clean, and fully intact.
The Hobbit (4th edition, 1978) features the iconic green jacket illustrated by Tolkien. The dustjacket shows only minor rubbing to extremities, with the fold-out Wilderland map in excellent condition.
The Fellowship of the Ring (11th impression, 1978) has a bright dustjacket with minimal edge wear. The fold-out map of Middle-earth is present and clean.
The Two Towers (10th impression, 1978) retains a sharp, unfaded dustjacket with slight rubbing to corners. The fold-out map of Rohan, Gondor, and Mordor is present and crisp.
The Return of the King (10th impression, 1978) shows a little rubbing and a small crease to the spine head, otherwise clean and bright. The fold-out map of Gondor and Mordor is present, undamaged.
The Silmarillion (1st edition, 4th impression, 1977) has a clean and attractive dustjacket with only light shelf wear. The large fold-out map of Beleriand is present and in very nice condition.
The cloth bindings across the set are clean and unworn, with bright gilt lettering. Interiors are free from inscriptions, with only light age-toning to page edges.
The original publisher’s slipcase is present and remains solid, showing expected rubbing and light edge wear but still very presentable, with the Tolkien monogram device bright on all panels.
A desirable and increasingly scarce Tolkien Library set, complete with all original maps and jackets — an excellent addition to any Tolkien collection.
