The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Allen & Unwin in 1958.

Original Binding, Near Fine / Very Good Original Dust Jacket.

A superb copy of an early printing of The Hobbit.
The 1958, 10th overall printing, or the 6th printing of the 2nd Edition (1958).

A Near Fine book in a Very Good dust jacket, with light edge wear and browning to the flaps and reverse.

The dustjacket shows beautifully, with almost no loss at the tips of the folds and edges.
The stated 10th impression dustjacket is original to the book, and has protected it well over the years.
This jacket is not price clipped and shows "12s 6d. net", to the front flap.
The spine of the jacket is slightly faded. Its reverse has browned panels and scattered spotting.
The book is stated 10th impression on title verso.

The text is generally clean, with age-toning and occasional small spots. Bound in the publisher’s original green boards, stamped in dark blue. The spine is faded and the rear board has a small bump.

Contains the full color frontispiece "The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water", as well as the original line drawings by Tolkien.
The red-and-black endpaper maps are clear and bright, with a small pencil note at the top of the rear map.

An attractive early copy retaining its original dust jacket.

A 1958 tenth-impression Hobbit with its matching unclipped jacket, Tolkien’s colour frontispiece and original endpaper maps.
