The Hobbit, or There and Back Again, by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published by Allen & Unwin in 1954.

Original Cloth, Very Good / Good Original Dust Jacket.

The sixth impression overall, and the second printing of the revised second edition, published in 1954. Stated sixth impression on the copyright page; one of 2,500 copies printed for the UK.

Bound in the original green cloth, stamped in dark blue, with light rubbing, uneven fading and minor marks. The text is generally clean, with age-toning, slight soiling to the page edges and a few spots, including on the copyright page. No previous owner's name is present.

The original sixth-impression dust jacket retains its unclipped price of 9s. 6d. net on the front flap. It has a substantial piece missing from the lower rear flap, tears to the front flap, small chips and wear at the folds and edges, and staining and spotting visible on the reverse. The rear flap advertises The Lord of the Rings as “In Preparation”.

With Tolkien's colour frontispiece, “The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water”, and his original line drawings. The red-and-black endpaper maps remain clear and bright, with light age-toning.

A 1954 sixth-impression Hobbit in its original jacket, still announcing the forthcoming Lord of the Rings.
