The Lord of the Rings - Houghton Mifflin 1978 paperback edition

Set with Eye of Sauron device on The Lord of the Rings covers

This set includes The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers and The Return of the King by J.R.R. Tolkien.

The Fellowship of the Ring: ISBN 0-395-27223-8, first printing.
The Two Towers: ISBN 0-395-27222-X, third printing.
The Return of the King: ISBN 0-395-27221-1, third printing.

These volumes belong to the Houghton Mifflin trade paperback edition first published in 1978. The number lines identify the individual printings; the precise publication dates of the two third printings are not stated in the books.

The covers carry the Eye of Sauron design and a printed facsimile of J.R.R. Tolkien's signature, not a handwritten signature. This paperback edition was also issued in boxed sets, including sets with The Hobbit; no slipcase is included here.

These paperbacks are in used condition, with broken spines, shelf wear and yellowing, but very clean text blocks.

A well-used reading set of the distinctive Houghton Mifflin Eye of Sauron paperbacks, combining the first printing of The Fellowship of the Ring with third printings of the other two volumes.
