This box set collects the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien. Books included are "The Fellowship of the Ring," "The Two Towers," and "The Return of the King;" all three of which are part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy; along with "The Hobbit."

Ballantine / Del Rey paperbacks in the purple slipcase illustrated by Michael Herring, first issued in 1993. This slipcase was used for various printings; the exact dates and impressions of the four volumes inside this sealed copy have not been verified. The edition date is not a claim that each volume was printed in 1993.

The set carries ISBN 0345195299, with an additional ISBN 0345340426 sticker on the outside of the publisher's shrinkwrap. These ISBNs were reused for different issues and do not identify the individual printings inside the sealed box.

The set remains in the publisher's shrinkwrap, in as-new, unread condition.
