Reflections on the Collects — Michael H. R. Tolkien's copy, second impression, 1966

J. W. C. Wand. A. R. Mowbray & Co. Ltd, London. With Michael H. R. Tolkien's Stonyhurst ownership inscription, dated September 7th, 1966.

Reflections on the Collects by J. W. C. Wand.
Year Published: 1966. Second Impression. 182 pages.
Blue dust jacket over blue cloth.
Michael H. R. Tolkien's ownership inscription is in blue and red ink. It is not a signature by J.R.R. Tolkien or the author. The original catalogue attributes underlining and marked passages to Michael Tolkien.
The cloth shows light wear and fading at the spine. The pages show age-toning, with spotting at the page edges.
The price-clipped jacket is substantially worn, with a heavily tanned and stained spine, tears, chipped edges and a large loose flap at the spine head. The rear panel shows marks and spotting.

This book belonged to Michael Hilary Reuel "Mick" Tolkien (22 October, 1920 - 27 February, 1984), who was the second son of J.R.R. and Edith Tolkien. Michael Tolkien stayed and worked at Stonyhurst from 1965 to 1976. He lived in Woodfields, the last house on the hill. His father stayed with him there on a number of occasions. Three to four trees were planted in the backyard on his father’s suggestion.

John William Charles Wand KCVO PC was an English Anglican bishop. He was the Archbishop of Brisbane in Australia before returning to England to become the Bishop of Bath and Wells before becoming the Bishop of London. He was the author of many theological and historical books.

A personal association copy preserving Michael Tolkien's distinctive Stonyhurst ownership inscription.
Digital photographs available; enquire if interested.
