The Lord of the Rings - Millennium Edition

J.R.R. Tolkien. HarperCollins, 1999. Seven-volume boxed set with an accompanying audio CD.

The Millennium Edition presents The Lord of the Rings in seven small hardback volumes: the six books of the narrative followed by a separate volume of appendices. The black bindings have red and gold decoration, with the letters across the spines spelling TOLKIEN.

The set is housed in its black publisher's slipcase, lettered in gold and marked The Book of the Century. The accompanying CD, J.R.R. Tolkien Reads Excerpts from The Lord of the Rings, is recorded in the original listing; its printed sleeve is shown beside the slipcase.

The photographs show surface scuffs and handling marks on the slipcase, with rubbing and wear at its edges and corners. The book spines show some light marks. The interiors and the playing surface of the CD are not illustrated, and no playback test is recorded.

A distinctive seven-volume presentation of The Lord of the Rings, accompanied by a recording of Tolkien reading his own work.
