The Hobbit, First Edition, First Impression.
One of only 1,500 copies printed for the first publication of the author's first novel.
Facsimile of the first issue dustjacket.
Original green cloth, titles and tolkien's own 'Mountains and Dragon' design to spine and both boards in blue.
Very clean map endpapers, front and rear.
The slightly faded green top stain is still evident.
Comes in the Tolkien designed dustjacket (facsimile).
Frontispiece and 9 other illustrations in black and white by the author.
This copy has small damage on the cover, on the lower left edge of the front.
It has a former owner's bookplate, and at the bottom of the map of Wilderland at the end there is a label from "The Times Book Club" and a stamped date "12.37".
On page 226 there is a neat pencil correction of the misprint "momnet". In the bottom margin of page 278 there is a stain, which is also visible on page 277, and set off on page 279.
Apart from this the pages are clean and good-looking.
Still a nice square copy, without any foxing.
A very nice 1st Impression without any restoration.
Text block is very clean and bright, with no foxing.
One of the classics of 20th Century Literature.
