This is the exceedingly scarce Advance Uncorrected Proof of Farmer Giles of Ham, issued by Houghton Mifflin in 1990. Bound in plain white card wraps and issued without hardcover binding, this copy was printed for internal use and early review purposes only.

Condition is Very Good. Minor age toning to wrappers and some gentle edgewear, but overall exceptionally well-preserved for a proof of this age. Includes full interior text and illustrations as in the published edition. Notably, this proof features Roger Garland’s iconic artwork on the separate dust jacket, which is also present and in excellent condition.

Proof copies of Tolkien’s illustrated titles are almost never seen, and this is one of the rarest — particularly in such complete and intact form. It is a unique production piece representing Tolkien's enduring charm and the distinctive vision of Garland’s art.
