The Annotated Hobbit (Advance Uncorrected Proof)

J.R.R. Tolkien; Douglas A. Anderson (introduction and notes)
Published Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston, 1988

This Book is in Near Fine Condition. Quarto (11" x 8.5"), 337 pp.
Pages remain clean and unmarked; spine, uncreased.

Anderson's annotations explore the literary sources, composition and publication history of The Hobbit. The volume also reproduces the original version of "Riddles in the Dark", allowing comparison with Tolkien's later revision of the encounter between Bilbo and Gollum.

Illustrations and maps accompany the text and notes in this first Annotated Hobbit edition.

A collectable advance proof of a landmark study of The Hobbit.
