The Hobbit Heritage of Literature Edition Uncorrected Proof

J.R.R. Tolkien.
Published Heritage of Literature Edition, Longmans, London, 1966

A substantially worn copy, with several loose pages and old adhesive-tape marks at the front. Pronounced toning, spotting, staining and wear affect the text block and pages.

Does not have Thror’s Map and the Map of Wilderland on the endpapers. Tolkien's black and white illustrations are not included.

The pasted front label misspells Tolkien's surname as 'Tolkren'. There is no title page, and the text begins directly with An Unexpected Party.

The exterior red and white paper shows some wear to the corner tips, signs of discoloration, and some cracking and minor fraying at the spine.
It shows the Longmans name and logo in checkered pattern. Part of the "uncorrected proof label" missing.

A distinctive Longmans proof, preserving the conspicuous “Tolkren” cover-label error.
