In yellow paper wrappers printed in black and explicitly marked Advance Uncorrected Proofs. The rear cover advertises January publication at $24.95, with ISBN 0-312-85175-8. The copyright page states First edition: January 1992 and retains the provisional wording CIP data TK.

The anthology includes Terry Pratchett’s Troll Bridge, Stephen R. Donaldson’s Reave the Just, Peter S. Beagle’s Naga and Patricia A. McKillip’s The Fellowship of the Dragon, alongside other fantasy stories written in tribute to Tolkien. This is an anthology honouring him, not a book authored by Tolkien.

The photographs show light rubbing and marks to the yellow wrappers, small corner and edge wear, and creasing at the head of the spine. There are dark rubbing or offset marks inside the front cover. The photographed text pages appear generally clean, with light toning. The advertised extent on the rear cover refers to the proposed publication and is not a collation of this proof.
