Humphrey Carpenter: The Inklings (Uncorrected Proof, Houghton Mifflin, 1979)
Houghton Mifflin Company, 1979 – Yellow proof copy
Uncorrected proof – a rare advance copy of Humphrey Carpenter’s seminal study of **C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Charles Williams and their friends**, produced for final review before publication. The yellow wraps are characteristic of Houghton Mifflin proofs, and this example features sharp binding and clear printing.
The book is in **very good condition**: covers are clean with minimal shelf handling, pages crisp and unmarked. The proof copy status makes it highly collectible to Tolkien/Inklings bibliophiles.
Uncorrected Houghton Mifflin proof copy of *The Inklings* by Humphrey Carpenter (Boston, 1979), bound in yellow wraps, rare and little represented on the market.
This proof is notably scarce. Market data shows first edition hardcovers selling from **US $48–73**. Proofs of Carpenter’s *Inklings* are virtually nonexistent.
