J.R.R. Tolkien: The Treason of Isengard — Uncorrected Proof
Houghton Mifflin Company, 1989
An American uncorrected proof in yellow paper wrappers with black lettering and Elvish borders. The cover and title page give ISBN 0-395-51562-9 and publisher’s code 6-97039-7.
An Advance Uncorrected Proof notice is printed on an opening page, giving a probable publication date of November 1989 and a probable price of $19.95, with illustrations, index and appendix indicated. This is a printed notice within the book, rather than a separately laid-in review slip.
The seventh volume of The History of Middle-earth and the second part of The History of The Lord of the Rings, examining Tolkien’s evolving narrative and geography through manuscripts and Christopher Tolkien’s commentary.
The yellow wrappers show light rubbing and surface marks, slight edge wear, and small creases at the head of the spine and an upper rear corner. The page edges are toned; the photographed opening pages appear generally clean. This description does not assert a full collation of the proof.
A yellow-wrapper American proof documenting the publication of Tolkien’s developing Lord of the Rings narrative.
