J.R.R. Tolkien: The Lost Road and Other Writings (Uncorrected Proof)
Houghton Mifflin, 1987
An uncommon uncorrected proof copy of The Lost Road and Other Writings, published in 1987 by Houghton Mifflin in the U.S. — Volume 5 of *The History of Middle-earth* series, edited by Christopher Tolkien.
This copy comes in the iconic orange wraps with Tengwar border decoration and includes the rarely seen original Houghton Mifflin review slip (dated 5 Sept 1987). The slip is in excellent condition, easily removable, with minor pencil annotations for reviewer name.
The Lost Road explores early versions of the Númenórean legend and Tolkien’s linguistic development—including *The Etymologies*, *The Annals of Valinor*, and *Beleriand*.
A clean, near‑fine copy: crisp covers, bright spine, minimal edge wear, and unmarked interior. Slip has a light crease but remains fully intact.
This is a rare opportunity: uncorrected proofs of this volume with the publisher's slip are exceptionally scarce.
