The Lost Road and Other Writings – Uncorrected Proof

An American uncorrected proof in orange paper wrappers, printed in black with Elvish-script borders. The front identifies the book as an UNCORRECTED PROOF and gives ISBN 0-395-45519-7 and publisher’s code 6-97048-6.

A Houghton Mifflin advance-proof notice appears on an opening page, giving a probable publication date of 30 November 1987 and a probable cloth-edition price of $18.95. The photographs show this notice as part of the opening pages; a separate loose review slip is not established.

The fifth volume of Christopher Tolkien’s History of Middle-earth presents the development of his father’s earlier mythology and languages, including the Númenórean material associated with The Lost Road.

The wrappers show creasing and small nicks along their upper edges, with light rubbing and a few surface marks. The spine has slight wear at its head. The photographed interior pages appear generally clean, with mild age-toning. No claim of complete collation is made.
